Canal Plus, the heavyweight French broadcaster, has again acquired free-to-air (FTA) rights to show the NBA’s regular season game in Paris this season.

The league’s third regular season game in the French capital will see the Brooklyn Nets face the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Accor Arena on January 11, 2024.

The contest will simultaneously be shown by international pay-TV operator BeIN Sports, which holds rights to the league in France, as well as the NBA League Pass streaming service.

Canal Plus also aired the clash between the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons last season. That game was shown for free on the broadcaster’s main channel.

The NBA Paris Game 2024 will mark the Nets’ second in the French capital, having played a pre-season fixture in the city in 2008. The Cavaliers, meanwhile, will be playing their first game in Europe.

The Milwaukee Bucks faced the Charlotte Hornets in the league’s first-ever regular season fixture in Paris in 2020.

The NBA resumed its regular season games in Europe last January following a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The location of the annual game was switched to Paris in the 2019-20 campaign having been played at the O2 arena in London since 2011.

As things stand, the Nets-Cavs game will be the first regular season encounter in Paris that will not feature a French player on either roster. In previous editions, Nicolas Batum represented the Hornets, while Killian Hayes featured for the Pistons.

According to the league, there have been more NBA players from France than from any other country outside North America, including this year’s number one overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs).
