Oil and gas giant Shell has expanded its relationship with Scuderia Ferrari, the racing division of the iconic Italian sports car manufacturer.
The new agreement, announced today (March 17), will see Shell provide lubricants and coolants for the Ferrari Hypercar program as the marque returns to the top tier of endurance racing for the first time in 50 years.
It is focused on optimizing the performance, reliability, and durability of the new Ferrari 499P, which makes its debut today at the first race of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the Sebring International Raceway in Florida, US.
The 1000 Miles of Sebring race is the first of seven WEC rounds, which will culminate with the 8 Hours of Bahrain in Sakhir on November 4.
The season also includes the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France on June 10 and 11.
Shell says there is also a sustainability element to the partnership, with plans to assess the potential for the use of sustainable biofuels and other solutions to decarbonize Scuderia Ferrari’s broader operations in areas like logistics and power supplies.
