RTL, the prominent Dutch free-to-air (FTA) commercial broadcaster, has retained live coverage rights to elite cycling’s UCI Track Champions League for the 2022 season.
Through a deal agreed with series promoter Discovery Sports Events, announced today (October 31), RTL will broadcast all five 2022 rounds of the competition’s second season on the RTL7 channel, as well as on its Videoland streaming service.
The initial deal struck by RTL with Discovery Sports Events was signed in July last year, before the inaugural edition of the Track Champions League began in November.
Peter van der Vorst, chief content officer at RTL, said: “We are delighted to be screening the UCI Champions League for a second successive season. Its short, dynamic and attractive racing format fits our strategy of building new sports in the Dutch territory.”
Francois Ribeiro, Discovery Sports Events’ head, added: "The Netherlands is a key market for us and this agreement with RTL will ensure the series is not only delivered to the country’s dedicated track cycling fans, but also to new fans who’ll be watching the sport for the very first time.”
The 2022 season of the Track Champions League begins in Mallorca, Spain, on November 12 before visiting Berlin in Germany, St-Quentin-En-Yvelines in France, and London in the UK for a two-round finale on December 2 and 3.
