UEFA, European soccer’s governing body, has earlier today (October 6) renewed its cooperation agreement with the European Commission (EC) until 2025.
This latest agreement between the two will take the overall relationship between UEFA and the EC up to 11 years, with the pair having first entered into a collaboration in 2014.

The agreement “marks an intensification of the long-standing collaboration … towards using European soccer as a force for positive change across Europe”, UEFA has said.
The agreement, that body has stated, is “structured around key European Union priorities” including action around climate change, equality for all, and social inclusion.
UEFA events and competitions including the men’s 2024 European Championships and the women’s Euros in 2025 will have a strategic focus placed on them.
The agreement “explicitly reaffirms the resolve of the European Commission and UEFA to protect and strengthen the European Sport model”, based on solidarity between all levels, sporting merit, and integrity.

UEFA’s president, Aleksander Ceferin, said: “These last years have been an intense period of cooperation between UEFA and our EU partners in facing generational challenges to the European way of life and our European sports model.
“As this agreement signals, our partnership – based on decades of trust and open relations – is stronger than ever and we have a roadmap to develop ambitiously into the future together for the benefit of all.”
Margaritis Schinas, vice president of the European Commission, added: “Europe’s core principle is solidarity. UEFA and the European Commission will ensure that UEFA’s competitions remain a success story embedded in our European Sport model. This is a unique partnership: We will keep working within the existing structures and framework in full alignment with European objectives towards serving and bringing together European society and citizens.”
