Intermountain Healthcare has been named as the title partner of both the 2021 Ironman World Championship and this year’s half-distance Ironman 70.3 World Championship through a renewed deal with Ironman, the organizer of long-distance triathlon events.
The World Championship is set to take place in St. George, Utah, the US on May 7, a year after its original date due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It will be the first time the championships have taken place since 2019, after the cancellation of the 2020 edition.
Covid-19 also led to a change of location for the delayed 2021 event, which will mean it is the first time in over 40 years that it will not be held in Hawaii.
The 2022 edition is to return to its usual destination, in Kailua-Kona on October 6 and 8.
Meanwhile, the 2022 70.3 World Championships will also take place at St. George from October 28 to 29.

As part of the partnership, Intermountain Healthcare will also serve as the official medical partner and official volunteer partner to both events.
Marc Harrison, managing director, chief executive and president at Intermountain Healthcare, said: “Intermountain Healthcare is proud to expand our partnership with Ironman to include the Ironman World Championship event, which truly represents the pinnacle of elite athletics.
“As an Ironman competitor myself, I know the determination and grit it takes to compete in such a race. It’s the same energy our Intermountain caregivers put forward every day making healthier communities.”
It has also been announced that performance brand Supersapiens will serve as the title sponsor of the 2022 World Championship, which is to take place over two days for the first time.
The brand will also become the official real-time energy management system provider to the event, adding to its relationship that began last year.
Phil Southerland, chief executive and founder at Supersapiens, said: “Together, we want to help athletes unlock the key to understanding their body and fundamentally change the way they approach energy management.”
