Globo, the Brazilian commercial broadcasting giant, has entered into a three-year agreement with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) covering multiple top-tier men’s and women’s competitions.
The media rights deal between the two bodies, struck late last week (January 28), covers the Supercopa do Brasil, the under-20 and under-17 age-group youth tournaments, and the women’s Brasileirao and Supercup, as well as friendlies of the Brazilian women’s national team.
The women’s competitions section of the agreement includes Globo putting up to 40 games each season from the Brasileirao live on its Sportv channel, while TV Globo will also cover matches in 2023 and 2024.
Rival commercial broadcaster Bandeirantes is the CBF’s current partner when it comes to women’s soccer.
Globo will show four matches itself from the eight-team women's Supercopa, with seven airing on Sportv each season, while from 2023 Globo will air the decisive phase of the Brasileirao.
The agreement also covers all friendlies played by the Brazilian women’s national team in the run-up to the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, with Sportv covering up to 12 games exclusively, and TV Globo showing six.

By GlobalDataThe CBF will take care of all production elements of women’s soccer.
For the men's Supercopa, meanwhile, the 2022 edition between Atletico-MG and Flamengo on February 20 will be broadcast on all Globo platforms, both linear and online.
In terms of youth soccer coverage, Sportv will show around 80 games a season from the main under-17 and under-20 competitions – the Brasileirao, the Copa do Brasil, and the Supercopa.
At the moment, Globo is focusing more on national competitions such as those listed above than on regional competitions, with only four of Brazil’s 25-plus state championships currently having agreements in place with the commercial broadcaster.
In December, Globo struck a deal with Amazon Prime Video, the live streaming service operated by the global retail and media giant, which is set to offer live 2022 Copa do Brasil coverage through the sub-licensing agreement.
The streaming platform will make 30 matches available exclusively – between the first stages and the quarter-finals – before another six between the quarter-finals and the final itself are covered non-exclusively and shared with Globo.
The Copa do Brasil will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers through devices including smart TVs, smartphones, Fire TV, and Apple TV, as well as online.
Globo currently holds live rights to the competition and will broadcast 36 matches from the knockout competition this year, with the Copa getting underway on February 23.
