The US-based IndyCar motor racing series has secured its broadcasting future in Latin America for the next three seasons through a deal with media rights heavyweight Disney.
Through its Latin American ESPN+ and Star+ pay-TV and live streaming services, Disney will cover the 2022-24 IndyCar seasons across the region.
All races will be covered live by the two pay-TV channels, while the practice and qualifying sessions will also be shown. The various accompanying streaming services will cover the action as well.
A range of networks, including international sports streaming service DAZN and cable TV operator Claro, covered IndyCar across Latin America during the 2021 campaign.
Last month, it was reported that Disney had submitted a bid to cover English soccer’s top-tier Premier League in Brasil from the 2022-23 season onwards.
In addition to the IndyCar pay-TV coverage, in Brazil, the series will continue to be shown by free-to-air broadcaster TV Cultura, with both deals having been struck over the weekend.

By GlobalDataTV Cultura, through the renewal, will carry on showing action from the motor racing series until the end of the 2024 campaign.
The channel first covered IndyCar last year, with the series having been covered in Brazil by commercial broadcaster Grupo Bandeirantes, on its Band and Bandsports TV channels, and sports streaming platform DAZN before that.
Jose Roberto Maluf, the network’s president, said: “TV Cultura, once again, gives a significant space to motorsport … Over the next three years, the public will be able to follow IndyCar races on Cultura, which has made a strong investment in sports programming.”
The 2022 IndyCar season, which will comprise 17 races, starts on February 27 in St Petersburg, Florida, with Brazilian Hélio Castroneves set to compete for the Meyer Shank Racing team.
It will end on 11 September at Laguna Seca Raceway in California.
Fans in countries without a broadcast deal in place for the series next year will be able to follow race action via the mobile IndyCar app.
The series took its international media rights in-house two years ago.
TV Cultura also holds rights to other motorsport properties including the international electric car racing series Formula E, as well as the Brazilian Mercedes-Benz Challenge.
Last month, Stan Sport snapped up IndyCar rights for 2022, in a deal that also saw the over-the-top streaming platform run by the Nine broadcast network acquire rights to the World Rally Championship (WRC) and World Endurance Championship (WEC).
The series will feature Australian drivers Will Power and Scott McLaughlin.
In November, meanwhile, European broadcast giant Sky struck a deal for IndyCar rights in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, and the UK.
It represents an extension in the UK and Ireland (where races have been shown on the Sky Sports F1 channel since 2019), but a new acquisition in Italy and the DACH German-speaking countries.
In July this year, NBC, the US national network extended its deal with the IndyCar organizers in a multi-year renewal.
IndyCar and NBC have been partners since 2009, with the arrangement becoming exclusive for NBC in 2019.
