Tencent, the Chinese internet giant, has secured non-exclusive live rights to show German soccer’s top-tier Bundesliga in China for the next two seasons.
The broadcaster will show the league, which kicked off its 2021-22 season last Friday, up until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
Tencent’s coverage has already started, with the first match under the new deal being the 1-1 draw between Bayern Munich and Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday evening.
Tencent becomes the third Chinese broadcaster this month to secure Bundesliga rights, following on from Dongquidi and HUYA, which both struck coverage deals with Bundesliga International, the arm of the league which deals with global rights sales, earlier this month.
Games will be made available on Tencent Video, Tencent Sports, WeChat, Tencent News, and through other platforms operated by the service.
During the 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign, which finished in May, live action was shown in China by video streaming platform Migu, pay-TV broadcaster Star Sports, and also by state-run network CCTV.

By GlobalDataLast week, Tencent secured non-exclusive live rights to pan-European soccer’s prestigious Uefa Champions League, in a one-season deal with Team Marketing, Uefa's broadcast rights sales agent.
The agreement gives Tencent the rights to stream matches from both the top-tier Champions League and the second-tier Europa League to a Chinese audience during the 2021-22 season.
Elsewhere in soccer, the internet heavyweight has domestic rights to the Chinese Super League, through a three-year deal struck in April this year, and also showed action from England’s top-tier Premier League last season.
Tencent also has rights to major North American sports leagues such as basketball’s NBA and American football’s NFL, and to motor racing’s Formula 1 and Extreme E.
