Golf’s USA-based PGA Tour and European Tour are to co-sanction three tournaments in 2022 as part of their new strategic alliance.
The Genesis Scottish Open and two US tournaments – the Barbasol Championship in Kentucky and the Barracuda Championship in California – will all form part of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup and the European Tour's Race to Dubai.
Meanwhile, the prize money for the Irish Open, another European Tour event is to practically double, to $6 million, with the support of the PGA Tour.
The announcement was made as the PGA Tour confirmed its schedule for 2021-22, which comprises 48 events, including the three FedExCup Playoffs tournaments.
The new arrangements have been agreed under the strategic alliance signed by the PGA Tour and European Tour in November 2020.
Meanwhile, the Scottish Open will have a new title sponsor in Genesis, the Korean car maker which already gives its name to the PGA Tour's Genesis Invitational held at the Riviera Country Club in California, in a partnership that dates back to 2017.

By GlobalDataThe Genesis Scottish Open, which is part of the European Tour’s elite Rolex Series, will continue to be held a week before the British Open, one of golf’s four majors, until 2025, and the field will be split between members of the European Tour and PGA Tour.
Meanwhile, the Scottish government has extended its support for the tournament, through Visit Scotland, the national tourist organisation, also to 2025. A venue for the 2022 event will be announced in due course.
Genesis is replacing Abrdn, the UK-based life assurance business, which is exploring other ways of continuing its decade-long partnership with the European Tour.
Keith Pelley, the chief executive of the European Tour, said: “We are delighted to welcome Genesis as a title sponsor of a European Tour event for the first time. Genesis has a strong history of sponsorship on the PGA Tour through The Genesis Invitational, and their commitment to the Scottish Open will further enhance one of our premier events of the season.”
Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour commissioner, added: “Adding an existing, strong title sponsor in Genesis to our Strategic Alliance in the form of the Genesis Scottish Open – to be sanctioned by both Tours – is a significant step for the global game.
“Coupled with their support of The Genesis Invitational at Riviera, we’re incredibly proud to forge a deeper relationship with this premier brand across the global game.”
The 2021-22 PGA Tour calendar is notable for having only two exclusive World Golf Championships events – the WGC-HSBC Champions in China and the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship in Austin, Texas – down from the established four.
Both the WGC-Mexico Championship and the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee, are set to be downgraded in status to PGA Tour events.
However, the latter event at TPC Southwind will now serve as the first event in the season-ending FedExCup Playoffs, as the FedEx St. Jude Championship, replacing The Northern Trust held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.
