Mediaset España, the Spanish arm of the Italy-based broadcasting group, has secured a sublicensing deal with global streaming service DAZN to show men's soccer’s revamped Club World Cup (CWC) club competition next year.
The agreement will see Mediaset provide live free-to-air coverage of the best fixture each day during the US-based tournament across Spain – a similar agreement the broadcaster struck in Italy earlier this month.
Davide Mondo, chief executive of Publiespaña, Mediaset España’s advertising subsidiary, said: “At Publiespaña, we are very proud to be part of this collaboration with DAZN, a great opportunity to connect with large audiences. We estimate a reach of more than 25 million viewers in Spain alone.
“This alliance between a broadcaster and a streamer will amplify the visibility of the Club World Cup and will mark a turning point in the history of club football, not only because of the caliber of the teams participating, but also because of the relevance and opportunity we will offer our advertisers.”
The CWC kicks off on June 14, 2025, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It will feature the top 32 clubs in the world, playing 63 matches over 29 days, with Spanish representation coming from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
The revamped CWC will feature a new format in which continental governing bodies, apart from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), receive multiple team slots.
Europe’s UEFA, with 12, will have the most teams. As well as the Spanish duo, the lineup will include Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Juventus, Inter Milan, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Red Bull Salzburg.
DAZN secured exclusive global rights to the CWC last December, for around $1 billion, and will show all 63 games for free but has also agreed sublicensing deals in key markets in recent weeks to recoup some of its large investment.
Earlier this month, the TNT Sports network signed a deal with DAZN to show 24 of the tournament’s games across the US, which marked the second tie-up in the country following an agreement with Spanish language media group TelevisaUnivision to air 18 matches across its Univision, UniMás, and TUDN platforms.
Last month, meanwhile, an Egyptian sub-licensing deal for the tournament was agreed with MBC Group, the Saudi-owned FTA broadcaster, while the Iris Sport Media agency secured distribution rights across sub-Saharan Africa.
