Global energy solutions firm Aggreko will continue as a commercial partner of the international SailGP sailing series for another three seasons after extending its deal.
Under the extension, Aggreko will continue to serve as the property’s temporary power supplier.
The first partnership between the two was announced in 2021, with GlobalData Sport having valued that deal at $1.5 million in total.
The partnership has so far seen both parties work together to “proactively maximize fuel efficiencies onsite including green grid distribution and the use of alternative fuels.”
So far, all three events from the ongoing 2025 season – Dubai, Auckland, and Sydney – have been powered by 100% clean energy on-shore.
The partnership extension has been announced in advance of the Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix (title sponsored by Rolex) on March 15 and 16.
Julien Di Biase, chief operating officer at SailGP, has said: “Having a major events group like Aggreko support driving change has been invaluable—from installing the largest temporary solar array at a sporting event in Dubai on our behalf, to helping us find clean energy solutions for events worldwide.
“This renewed partnership provides us with the opportunity to drive greater impact and work together to continue to pioneer within the sporting industry and beyond.”
In terms of recent SailGP commercial activity, late January saw the competition unveil telecoms company Ericsson as its global technology supplier for the 2025 season.
Through the agreement, Ericsson Enterprise Wireless is now providing SailGP teams and personnel with 5G connectivity, which the series claims will improve fan experiences and race operations.
January also saw Accor come in as SailGP’s first-ever hotel planner.
Other significant sponsors, meanwhile, include DP World, and Emirates.
David de Behr, Aggreko’s event services head of sales, added: “Supporting SailGP in its switch to more sustainable temporary energy solutions, while keeping the highest reliability of operations in each of the races around the world is our priority. We are thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with SailGP as it becomes one of the leading global sailing championships.”
Aggreko also has sports sponsorship deals in place with properties such as the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England, as well as motor racing’s top-tier Formula 1.
The F1-Aggreko tie-up has been valued by GDS as worth $6.25 million annually.
