The international Premier Padel series, and the Hexagon Cup annual padel tournament, have announced a new strategic partnership aimed at growing the sport globally across the men’s, women’s, and youth categories.
Through the agreement, the pair will collaborate alongside the International Padel Federation (FIP) governing body to deliver the first-ever FIP Intercontinental Cup competition later in 2025.
That competition, which will take place in mid-2025 in a European location yet to be announced, will be explicitly partnered by Hexagon Cup for its delivery.
Furthermore, this deal paves the way for the Hexagon Cup to gain official tournament recognition by the FIP, something it is already in the process of becoming.
This will, in turn, aid the expansion of the Hexagon Cup beyond its single annual Madrid tournament into an international multi-event series in new and emerging global markets.
Operationally, Premier Padel (owned by Qatar Sports Investments), and the Hexagon Cup (founded by Formula E and Extreme E founders Enrique Buenaventura, Simon Freer, Alejandro Agag, and Alberto Longo), will collaborate on new brand ideas, tournament advertising, activations, and other initiatives aimed at growing the notoriety of padel internationally.
Speaking on the partnership Buenaventura said that the inclusion of padel at the Olympic games is a major goal of the partnership, adding: “Together, with the support of [Premier Padel and the] FIP, we have the shared goal of globalizing the sport and achieving its Olympic inclusion at the earliest opportunity.
“In three years, Premier Padel has elevated the sport worldwide – a remarkable achievement built on dedication and excellence. We are very proud to have recently delivered a successful second edition of the Hexagon Cup – and through this partnership, we will work together to expand the sport by organizing events in key territories where the fan base is growing and accelerating its development.”
Premier Padel chief executive David Sugden added: “Our collective mission is to support the International Padel Federation [to] elevate the sport on a global scale, and our world-class teams will work on a range of creative collaborations, initiatives and projects for the benefit all players, fans, and the whole padel ecosystem to support the sport’s continued growth.”
The second edition of the Hexagon Cup took place from January 29 to February 2, and ahead of that tournament the event’s commercial managing director Astrid Thams spoke to Sportcal, explaining the corporate changes that occurred ahead of the event and the aims for globalization and professionalization that it sought.
