Saudi Arabian bank Alinma has struck a deal covering naming rights to one of the stadiums that will host action from soccer’s 2034 FIFA World Cup.

Through a deal between the Saudi Ministry of Sport and Alinma, unveiled earlier this week, the firm now puts its name to the King Abdullah Sports City venue in the city of Jeddah. The tie-up runs until 2029.

A statement by the Saudi government has said the deal is the “first step of a project that will extend to several stadiums in sports cities across the Kingdom."

The newly-named Alinma Stadium, which opened in 2014 and hosted games during the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, has a capacity of around 60,000 and in January was also announced as a venue for continental soccer’s 2027 Asian Cup.

In addition, it plays host to top-tier tennis, mixed martial arts, and boxing.

It is one of just four stadiums that the Saudis plan on using for the 2034 World Cup that are already built – the other 11 all need to be constructed.

The evaluation report into Saudi Arabia’s 2034 World Cup bid cited the stadiums element of the proposal as presenting a medium risk (each aspect of the bid was ranked high, medium, or low).

The 15 proposed venues – across five Saudi cities – are not all scheduled to be completed until early 2032.

Several games would likely be held in the futuristic city of Neom – for which construction is in its early stages.
