Three candidates are reportedly in line to replace Lorenzo Casini as president of Italian soccer's top-tier Serie A.
Carlo Bonomi, Ezio Simonelli, and Umberto Gandini, are all in the running, Italian sports business media has reported over the last 24 hours, with the first vote to be held on December 16.
At this point, it is reportedly seen as questionable whether Casini – who has been in place since March 2022, having at that point replaced Paolo Dal Pino – will choose to run again himself.
Bonomi was a candidate for the league's presidency two years ago and is also the former president of Italian private commerce chamber Confindustria. He is reportedly supported by the president of Serie A champions Inter Milan, Giuseppe Marotta.
Simonelli, meanwhile, is a long-time friend of of Monza chief executive Adriano Galliani, who currently chairs the board of the auditors of both Mediaset and publishing heavyweight Mondadori. A chartered accountant, he has also previously attempted to become president of the second-tier Serie B.
Lastly, Gandini is currently president of Italian basketball’s top-tier Lega Basket. He is also the former CEO of Serie A team AS Roma, and reportedly the preferred choice for Gabriele Gravini, chief executive at Italian soccer's FIGC governing body.

The next elective assembly of the 20-team league, at which the process of selecting the new president will begin, is set to take place on December 16. For a candidate to be elected at that point, 14 votes are needed – if this number is not secured by any of them, a second meeting will take place on January 10, with the same number required, while the last option is a meeting on January 20 at which only 11 votes (a majority) will be sufficient.
