FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, has officially launched an invitation to tender (ITT) for the media rights to the FIFA Women's World Cup Brazil 2027 in the host country.

Entities that want to participate in the tender process can request the ITT documents by e-mailing brazil-media-rights@fifa.org. The bid submission deadline is 16:00 CET on December 10, 2024.

Thirty-two teams will compete in at least eight host cities around the country (with Brazil qualifying automatically) as the Women's World Cup heads to South America for the first time.

This tender process has been launched with FIFA having got the media rights sales for the 2027 WWC underway earlier this week when a tender in the US – one of women's soccer's biggest markets – went live.

The most recent edition of the Women's World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, had an average of over 13 million viewers per match during the group stage in Brazil, despite the time difference for some games being 14 hours. Additionally, a record 32 million-plus hours of content were watched on social media in Brazil throughout the tournament.

The last WWC was covered in Brazil by a combination of broadcasting heavyweight Globo, and streaming service CazeTV.

In 2019, meanwhile, over 34 million Brazilians watched their country reach the round of 16 stage of that year's WWC in France.

The 2027 tournament was awarded to Brazil in May this year. Brazil came out on top in a vote by the 211 member federations that make up global governing body FIFA, securing 119 votes – the other submission, a joint bid by Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, only brought in 78.

Brazil officially confirmed its bid last December.

Globo holds current domestic rights to the Brazilian women's Serie A league, with games split between pay-TV and free-to-air.
