The Confederation of African Football (CAF), African soccer’s governing body, has awarded media rights to a slate of broadcasters across sub-Saharan Africa for its intercontinental competitions in the 2024-25 season.

These rights encompass the top-tier CAF Champions League and Women’s Champions League, the secondary CAF Confederation Cup, and the 2025 edition of the season-opening CAF Super Cup.

SuperSport, owned by regional broadcast heavyweight MultiChoice, has secured the English-language pay-TV rights to games from the competitions.

Meanwhile, the South African Broadcasting Association (SABC), the country’s public-service broadcaster, and Tanzania-based Azam Media will split the free-to-air rights across all languages.

Speaking on the announcement, CAF president Patrice Motsepe stated: “The exponential growth and global competitiveness of football in Africa has resulted in substantial interest from major African and international broadcasters in African Football.

The 2024-25 CAF Champions League season and Confederations Cup will run from November through May 2025.

The Super Cup, which pits the Confederations Cup winner against the Champions League winner, typically takes place each September, and the women’s Champions League in the period takes place as a short-form tournament across November.

In the 2023-24 season, CAF Champions League rights were held by Togo’s New World TV, before being sub-licensed out to SABC, as well as pay-TV operator StarTimes.

CAF’s men’s continental competitions, the Champions League, Confederations Cup, and Super Cup, are title sponsored by oil and gas major TotalEnergies in a deal that is worth a reported $31.25 million per year, which also covers the continent’s national team competition the Africa Cup of Nations.
