Repsol, the Spanish petrofuel company, will end its long-running sponsorship of the Honda MotoGP motorcycle racing outfit at the end of the series’ current 2024 season.
Known as Repsol Honda Team, Repsol has been the principal sponsor of Honda’s official factory team since 1995, meaning the partnership will have hit 30 consecutive years by the end of the 2024 campaign.
Over that time, Honda has won 10 premier class (Grand Prix Motorcycle racing/MotoGP) teams championships and 15 premier class riders championships, making it one of the most successful units in the sport’s history.
Through those years, Repsol has had primary branding on all Honda bikes, with branding extending to race suits worn by Honda riders.
Honda has not had a top-10 finish in 2024 and has struggled in recent years, especially since motorcycle icon Marc Marquez left the team in 2023 for rival Ducati-powered Gresini Racing, taking his sponsorship revenue with him.
Neither party has disclosed the reason for the partnership’s end, with Honda stating: “Honda HRC and Repsol have enjoyed a partnership which has become synonymous with success at the highest level.
