Caliente TV, a Mexican streaming operator, has snapped up rights to a package of games from pan-European club soccer’s UEFA Champions League (UCL).
The service unveiled recently that it has secured rights to 50% of UCL games in the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Wednesday UCL fixtures will be on Caliente, with Tuesday games to be covered by the TNT Sports and Max platforms run by media heavyweight Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).
Last season (2023-24), UCL action was shown in Mexico by the HBO Max platform, while some games were covered on sports heavyweight broadcaster ESPN.
Mexican players involved in last season’s UCL included Hirving Lozano at PSV, and Santiago Giménez at Feyenoord (both clubs from the Netherlands).
From 2024-25, the Champions League will take on a new single-league format, with the competition expanding from 32 to 36 teams, and incorporating 189 matches instead of the current 125. This season's group stages begin in mid-September.
