The New York Liberty franchise of North America’s top-tier women’s basketball competition, the WNBA, has announced a new multi-year partnership with global bank Barclays, with the bank to serve as the official jersey patch partner of the team.
Barclays branding will appear as a patch on all of the team’s uniforms through at least the next two seasons, while the company is also in as the team's official banking partner.
The partnership, which the franchise has described as the biggest single sponsorship funding injection in its 27-year history, serves as an expansion of Barclays’ existing deals with the team’s parent company, BSE Global.
BSE Global also owns men’s basketball’s Brooklyn Nets, of which Barclays is a sponsor, and Barclays also holds the naming rights to BSE’s Barclays Centre arena, which both the Nets and the Liberty play in.
The Liberty jersey patch will see its first outing on the opening day of the 2024 WNBA season, which the Liberty will open on May 14 against the Washington Mystics.
Speaking on the partnership, New York Liberty chief executive Keia Clarke stated: “The commitment of Barclays allows the Liberty to continually grow our business and broaden our impact.”
