Extreme E, the all-electric motor racing series, has today announced a new multi-year broadcast partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), an alliance of public service broadcasters across the continent, ahead of its fourth season.
Through the agreement, races will be broadcast live on the EBU’s new Eurovision Sport digital streaming platform, beginning with the Desert X Prix, rounds one and two of season four, which takes place this weekend (February 17 and 18) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The deal will provide free-to-air exposure for Extreme E in global markets.
The EBU launched its first direct-to-consumer streaming platform earlier this month.
Eurovision Sport is accessible online, as an app, and, later in the year, will be made available through connected TVs and selected free ad-supported streaming TV channels.
Ali Russell, managing director of Extreme E, said: “Having as many eyeballs watching our exciting wheel-to-wheel racing is paramount to the success and continued growth of our series, and having such a significant additional audience through the Eurovision Sport platform across so many countries is really exciting for Extreme E.

By GlobalData“We are delighted to partner with the EBU and look forward to leaning on their expertise and expanding our broadcast platform.”
Jean-Baptiste Casta, EBU Sport’s head of strategy and business operations, who is in charge of Eurovision Sport, added: “One of the goals of the platform is to introduce audiences to new events and grow interest in emerging sports.
“There can be no better example of this than Extreme E – a sport built on social purpose as well as all the excitement, energy and exhilaration of competition racing.”
Extreme E’s deal with the EBU follows a rights renewal with Spanish public service broadcaster RTVE last week.
The series has concluded several broadcast agreements in recent months for its new season including with commercial Irish broadcaster Virgin Media Television, ESPN (Latin America), and ITV (UK).
Meanwhile, Extreme E last month confirmed it will be discontinued after the upcoming 2024 season as it shifts to a hydrogen-powered competition instead next year.
