The EBU and the International Canoe Federation (ICF) have agreed on a three-year renewal of the worldwide media rights for the Canoe World Championships from 2017-2019.

In accordance to the latest information received from Chinese Taipei Canoe association the following Asian Championships, which were supposed to be held in Taiwan, because of the outbreak disease of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) for protecting the athletes of being affected have been postponed until the SARS has completely subsided.

After thorough discussion with the ICF medical committee and consulting the health authorities including the WHO, which advise against travelling to Guangzhou at the moment, the Executive Committee has decided to cancel the slalom world cup in Guangzhou in May 2003.
