NFL Media names McCullough creative VP and seeks affiliate sales chief for NFL Network
NFL Media, the media arm of the American football league, has named Bill McCullough as vice president, creative director.
In this newly created role, McCullough will be responsible for leading the marketing creative services team at NFL Media, which oversees the company’s advertising, on-air promotions, graphics, digital/social promotion marketing and brand strategy.
McCullough will be tasked with developing brand strategies, driving ratings and hitting NFL Media group’s marketing targets for its properties such as Thursday Night Football and RedZone.
McCullough’s experience in sports content includes working as vice-president creative development & operations at HBO Sports, the sports arm of the premium subscription channel, from 2010 until 2015.
He was also an executive producer at GoPro, the action camera company primarily involved in extreme sports.
Meanwhile, NFL Media is searching for a vice-president of NFL Network affiliate sales and distribution.
The individual will be responsible for managing the distribution efforts of NFL Network, the league’s television channel, as well as sourcing new distribution initiatives.
NFL Media has said that the role will include “negotiating complex carriage agreements with all multi-channel video programmer distributors including cable, satellite, telco as well as new and emerging digital/over-the-top platforms.”
Since 2012, NFL Network has had carriage deals with the top 10 television providers in USA, including Dish, DirecTV and Time Warner Cable
The network also has international distribution deals with platforms such as DAZN, the over-the-top streaming platform owned by Perform, and streaming deals with PlayStation Vue and Xbox.
NFL Media has said the candidate must be a “strategic and analytical thinker that is able to move from high-level concepts into practical planning and tactical implementation” and have 12 years’ experience in affiliate sales and content distribution.
Responsibilities listed by NFL Media include:
= Develop and implement strategies that grow consumption of NFL Network, drive distribution and increase revenue
= Consistently gather and understand key account information including pricing/packaging/positioning business models, new technology/product deployment strategies, as well as strategic partnership and marketing opportunities
= Manage the TV Everywhere efforts including securing NFL content into more homes/devices, helping to drive consumer awareness/usage and onboarding NFL Network affiliates through various integration points
= Manage all required NFL blackout components including properly identifying blackout territories/markets and collaborating with NFL Broadcasting and NFL Operations to develop and implement key blackout procedures/policies
= Identify and secure alternative distribution partners/platforms that provide incremental NFLN exposure/revenue including airlines, hotels, colleges/universities, retail, etc
= Manage the broadcast syndication of NFLN Thursday Night Football games including market analysis, bidding process/procedure, marketing commitments and deal execution
= Oversee all aspects of NFLN's video-on-demand (VOD) assets
