MTG retains KHL in deal with Lagardère
Modern Times Group, the Sweden-based broadcasting group, has renewed its rights to the Kontinental Hockey League, the top European ice hockey clubs competition, until 2021.
The deal covers the Nordic region and allows MTG to air matches on its Viasat Hockey channel in Finland, Norway and Sweden, along with the Viaplay OTT service in those three countries, plus Denmark.
The renewal was signed with Lagardère Sports, the agency that recently extended its contract to sell the KHL’s international media rights until the end of the 2020-21 season.
MTG’s screening of the games will be of particular interest to fans in Finland, where Viasat has shown Jokerit Helsinki’s matches in the three seasons they have played in the KHL.
MTG already offers a variety of ice hockey competitions on its channels, including the NHL and has Swedish rights to the IIHF World Championship from 2018 to 2023.
The 2017-18 KHL season begins on 21 August.
