At the end of each year, all Councils of the World Governing Body, the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF), select their female and male Skier/Rider of the year, from which the IWWF Executive Board members then elect the IWWF Athletes of the Year from their submissions – one female, one male.

For many of the highest ranked Wakeboard Riders in the World, China’s magnificent Linyi City waterfront stadium is now a familiar venue. Exactly five years ago, the City constructed this architectural masterpiece specifically to stage what was then the 32nd Stop of the World Cup Series of the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (IWWF). This return visit to Linyi will celebrate the 46th Stop of the series – the longest running and most successful of the IWWF.

An unpredictable week in Akita, Japan produced one of the most thrilling Waterski events of the year in the FISU World University Waterski Championships. The anticipated Typhoons never arrived, the mid-week dark clouds were transformed into hot sunny blue skies for the Finals and the most likely winners in most events just did not materialise. Each Finals in Slalom, Tricks and Jump thrilled the spectators as the outcome was always in doubt right to the very end!

The specially constructed world-class Waterski site in Ogata Village in Akita, Japan, which was previously used for the World Games in 2001 and since then for both National and Collegiate Waterski Championships in Japan, will host the 4th edition of the FISU World University Waterski Championship from 8 to 11 September.
