London Marathon organiser launches new Classics challenge
London Marathon Events today launched London Classics, a mass participation triathlon challenge encompassing two of the UK capital's leading annual sporting events, the London Marathon and RideLondon.
The London Classics will open with the Swim Serpentine, a two-mile open water swimming event that debuted last year, on 16 September. Anyone who has completed the London Marathon since 1981 and cycled the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 since its inception in 2013 is eligible to enter.
Hugh Brasher, director of London Marathon Events, said: “We have brought together the best marathon in the world, the world’s greatest cycling festival and our inspirational open water swimming event, Swim Serpentine, to create the London Classics. This will become one of the world’s great sporting challenges.
“Over the years, the London Marathon has inspired hundreds of thousands to take up running and we hope the London Classics will inspire tens of thousands to try a new sport.”
Since 2013, more than 2,500 people have completed both the Virgin Money London Marathon and Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100.
The 2017 Prudential RideLondon is slated for 28 to 30 July, while the next London Marathon takes place on 22 April.
